Prom dress giveaway announced

Is money keeping you from going to prom? There are two ways girls from Fremont Federation can get a free prom dress without stressing about it when prom is only around the corner!

One way is to visit the Princess Project on March 6 at 1:30 p.m. on 2201 Broadway Ave. in Oakland.

According to the project’s Web site, the Princess Project has given more than 9,000 girls in the Bay Area the opportunity to attend dress giveaways to get a prom dress and accessories that are new or nearly new.

Fifteen Fremont girls who signed up in advance will be taken into the Princess Project one-by-one and given a personal shopper, said Florence Valentine, the campus psychologist who helps organize trips to the Princess Project. Girls on a waiting list may also get to get a dress if some of those who signed up do not show up.

With the personal shopper, the girls will choose a dress and accessories. The dress sizes are from 0-24.

Girls must bring in a transcript and a valid ID.

After the girls are done picking their dress and accessories, the shopper will give them a time to come pick it up.

“They have beautiful dresses,” said Valentine. “It makes the girls feel real special and beautiful.”

The other way for Fremont girls to get a free prom dress is to sign up for the next Princess Project on March 13.

The Princess Project is held every year. This is Fremont Federation’s fourth year participation.
