The percentage of adolescents who are obese has tripled since the 1970s. They’re not just fat, they are also out of shape. More than two thirds of 5th, 7th and 9th graders weren’t eligible to pass their sports fitness test according to sfgate.com.

Every day I notice that more and more students are becoming lazy and defiant to participate in physical education. A majority of students would just rather sit down on the bleachers and wait until the period is over.

It is common for young girls in their teens to feel insecure about their body. They feel too fat, or too skinny.

“I don’t like the way my body looks,” said an anonymous student. “I’m really insecure, so I started going to the gym so I wouldn’t feel as insecure.”

It’s difficult to want to be skinny and in shape, when you’re surrounded by so much junk food.

Aside from the obvious solutions like eating less junk food, exercising daily, and getting enough sleep, according to lyved.com, contrary to popular belief, diets are aren’t recommended for improving your health.

People who stop dieting usually gain the weight back.

“I strongly suggest that more and more people should exercise more because it makes you look and feel better about yourself,” said a freshman of College Prepatory & Architecture Academy.
