World Traveler Visits

A world traveling writer and editor met the Green & Gold.

Staff from the Green & Gold met professional writer, film editor and world traveller Jennifer Lee, on Jan. 14. Lee talked to the class about her experience as a writer and editor.

Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1971. In 1978, when Lee was 7-years-old, she and her family immigrated to California. Once in California, Lee remembers moving a lot all throughout Southern California.

Later on, Lee attended the University of California, Santa Cruz and graduated in the class of 1994. Lee also went to graduate school in Italy.

Students asked what motivated Lee to pursue a career in writing.

“I just liked writing and coming up with my own ideas about what to talk about,” said Lee.

She recalls being in middle school and writing her own stories to share with classmates during lunchtime.

Lee has worked on three published books as an editor and author, including one named “Paris in Mind.” Lee’s first book was about martial arts. All of her books can be found in bookstores or can be pre-ordered through a bookstore. Lee has also worked with big companies like Wells Fargo in San Francisco and e-Bay in San Jose.

Lee also explained to the Green & Gold about her numerous travel experiences. She has traveled to many countries including Spain, France, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Morocco, Korea, Germany, Canada and Thailand.

Lee told the class she “loves cultural diversity” and about some of her motivations towards traveling, tasting local foods was among them. Lee does not like the typical touristic experience.

“[Traveling is a] valuable way to learn about people and the word,” she continued,  “[It’s] most exciting learning experiences people can have.”
