Fremont cheated out of victory over McClymonds — Commentary

Green & Gold writer believes game unfairly reffed

The Fremont Tigers boys basketball team lost 63-58 against McClymonds High School yesterday in the first Oakland Athletic League game of the season.

In my honest opinion, Fremont got cheated for some points, which could have either lead to a win or took them into overtime. But this wasn’t the first time Fremont was cheated during a game against Mack. Fremont was also cheated for 27 seconds of time during their football season against Mack as well.

During Wednesday’s basketball game there were plenty of penalties called against Fremont — most of which were unreasonable — and very few against Mack.

At one point in the game, McClymonds’ player #30 had the ball and stumbled over his own feet. But in the end the ref called pushing against Fremont’s #10, Tyronne Gaines.

The crowd disapproved because Gaines was clearly in front of #30 with his back turned to him. But still the call was put in play, giving Mack an extra two points from a given two free-throw shots.

But on the bright the constant missed dunks by Mack’s players was a constant tickle to the crowds stomachs.
