Coach Scot Alexander (second from right) gives his Tiger basketball players instructions on how to defeat the Oakland Tech Bulldogs. The Tigers did and will play the McClymonds Warriors today at 6 p.m. at Laney College for the Oakland Athletic League championship. The Tigers also have secured a spot in the first round of the CIF state playoffs.

The Fremont Tigers varsity basketball team will play McClymonds tonight for the sectional championship after they defeated the Oakland Tech Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

This was the semi-finals. The finals take place at 6 p.m. at Laney College. It is the second year in a row that the Tigers and Warriors will square off for the title.

“I’m so proud of my team for coming together, and we’re heading back to the Championship,” said senior Malik Candler, point guard.

The Tigers had to play two games to get to the OAL Championship, and those games were against Oakland High Wildcats and the Oakland Tech Bulldogs.

“I felt confident in my team because we have veterans on my team. We had something Tech doesn’t have and that’s some veterans that’s been there before,” said head Coach Scot Alexander.

Another player who voiced excitement over the win was Nicholas Seals, a small forward.

“Me and my team did it big tonight with this win. I felt like we were all playing as a team tonight and that’s how we were able to get this win,” said Seals.
