Fremont wins Silver Bowl; defeats Tech 18-6

A season that started dismally ended triumphantly when the Fremont Tigers pounced on the Oakland Technical Bulldogs 18-6 in the Silver Bowl Championship on Nov. 27 at Laney College.

After starting the season 0-6, the Tigers made it all the way to the end of the playoffs, and for the first time ever, won the Silver bowl.

Senior Sione Tupouata rushed for 296 yards in the game and scored two touchdowns. He was name MVP for the Oakland Athletic League.

“It feels good to achieve MVP, because I never thought I would,” said Tupouata. “Over the summer my coach told me that I was going to be MVP, and I didn’t believe it until, at the game, they called my name out.”

Fremont intercepted a Bulldogs pass late in the fourth quarter stealing the victory. The Tigers defeated Castlemont, last year’s Silver Bowl champ, on Nov. 21 to advance to the Oakland Athletic League finals.
