Tigers baseball gets soggy start

Heavy rains have been a drain on the Tigers baseball team.

The Tigers have missed three games because of rain and are 2-2 in the Oakland Athletic League.

Rainfall in Oakland is more than 110% of normal this season.

Junior Joaquin Hernandez, a second baseman and outfielder, said the rain has had a negative effect on the season because many practices also have been cancelled.

The Tigers beat Oakland High and McClymonds forfeited. The losses came in games against Skyline and Oakland Technical.

Coach Eugene Denard is in his third season with the baseball team. His son, Devante, is a pitcher who said there was no “best” player on the team.

“Everybody plays an important part, because usually if we are missing anyone, it throws our team off,” said Denard.
