Boys basketball has slow start

This year has seen a lot of new changes for the Fremont Tigers men’s basketball team. The team lost four of the five starters from the previous season, while gaining an entirely new coaching staff.

The new head coach, Scott Alexander, is a Fremont alumnus who was part of Fremont’s 1985 Oakland Athletic League championship team. The new J.V. head coach is John Vinson; Vinson has coached AAU basketball in the Oakland area for years and has coached many of the current Fremont players.

The make-up of the men’s varsity team also looks very different compared to the previous year. Only three team members played varsity for Fremont last year, one played J.V., and seven either did not play or did not attend Fremont last year.

With all of the changes Fremont has gotten off to a rocky start, posting  a 2-7 record.

However, Alexander believes his team can make a turn-around for the OAL season, which is set to begin Jan. 12.
