The Tiger soccer champs are back.

Although Fremont has the most championships of any team in the Oakland Athletic League, the Tigers had come up short for six straight years.

But under the direction of Coach Juan Aguilar, the soccer team went undefeated this year and captured the title.

The team had not won since Aguilar was a freshman at Fremont in 2008.

Aguilar said that he wanted to come back home and make history. He explained what he thought made the difference.

“I try to make the team into a family so that these connections can become the strength that carries our team through the season,” he said.

Aguilar described the players as a “team of fighters.”

Players also celebrated their success.

“I feel proud of my team and my school because there was a lot of doubt that we were going to get the championship,” said senior defensive player Selestino Vasquez. “We all worked as a team and knew how to handle the opponent.”

Sophomore Tomas Beltran Casto said the fact that the team won the championship can be attributed to three things: practice, teamwork and confidence.

Teammate Emmanuel Ruiz Cruz said the Tigers’ secret was communication, teamwork and understanding each other.
